In late sixteenth century Marwar, now known as Jodhpur in Rajasthan, the Rajput ruler, Raja Udai Sing, had clothes makers produce paintings of the robes they hoped to make for him - a bit like a current day couturiers drawing...
These clothes were particular as Sing was known as Mota Raja - or 'the fat king'!
This vintage watercolour is said to be a reproduction of one of those paintings.
