Hanging bird oil lamp

Vintage hanging oil lamp in brass in the shape of a bird. 

Known in India as 'diyas', these lamps were traditionally used during prayer and ceremonies by both Hindus and Muslims. 

The bird's body serves as a reservoir whilst a wick is placed in the small tray below.

In India, the warm, bright glow emitted by a diya lamp is believed to be auspicious.
